The Hon. Michael D. Abzug is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench by former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2008.
He is a registered Democrat.
Judge Abzug received his B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles. He went on to earn his J.D. from UCLA School of Law in 1974.
After graduating from law school, Abzug joined the Department of Justice as a special attorney. In 1976 he served as an assistant U.S. attorney for the U.S. Attorney's Office. Then in 1977, he joined the law firm of Wyman, Bautzer, Rothman, and Kuchel as an associate. After practicing with the firm for one year, Abzug became a deputy federal public defender for the Federal Public Defender's Office for the Central District of California. In 1981 Judge Abzug entered into private practice. He was a sole practitioner for 20 years before becoming an Administrative Law Judge in 2001 for the California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board. He remained there until his appointment to the Superior Court in 2008.
