The Honorable Thomas D. Long

The Hon. Thomas D. Long is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench in December of 2015 by former governor Jerry Brown. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Ronald H. Rose (Ret.).

He is a registered Democrat.

Judge Long received his B.A. from Stanford University. He went on to earn his J.D. from Stanford Law School.

Long began his legal career working as an associate for the law firms of Hufstedler, Miller, Carlson, and Beardsley from 1982 to 1983, Youngman, Hungate, and Leopold from 1983 to 1985, and Heller, Ehrman, White, and McAuliffe from 1985 to 1989. He would then join the law firm of Nossaman LLP in 1989, first as an associate and then making partner in 1991. He remained with the firm for almost 30 years, where his practice included representing the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), which resulted in a favorable multi-million dollar judgment in 2008.

Long also served as a Rancho Palos Verdes City Councilman from 2003 to 2011 and was the Mayor of the City of Rancho Palos Verdes for two terms in 2007 and 2011.
